Just a quick note - although, in theory, I appreciate your concern, it's rather presumptuous to assume every dog can't make this hike. I wouldn't take a small dog but any medium- to large-sized dog would be well-suited. There are plenty of small children on the hike, on foot. I'm fairly certain a creature who was made to be outdoors running and climbing would benefit from the great exercise of a hike at Mt. Si.
