Chances of being mauled by a cougar - None. I live next to the mountain and have spent months living in the wilderness. 11 years ago was the last recorded attack in Washington state. That occurred 346 miles away and was an attack on a small child. It will be much more dangerous driving to the trail head. Please camp in a manner that leaves no trace that you were there and don't advertise when you will camp there as the Dept of Natural Resources has a sign stating no overnight camping.
